Hyalite offers a variety of workshops for school counseling professionals. In addition, we will collaborate with you on the design and delivery of workshop presentations to meet your needs. All workshops are tailored to meet the needs of the participants. We are interested in offering high quality services to professionals that are useful and relevant.

Workshops Offered:

School Counseling Program Design and Implementation

School counselors learn how to design, deliver, and evaluate a school counseling program based on the ASCA national model and standards. The overall program model is briefly outlined and most of the time is spent developing strategies for delivering and evaluating a school or district program. Participants explore student development, individual and group counseling, guidance curricula, and student planning. Participants observe several activities that can be used in group work, classroom guidance, or faculty development. This course is informative, fun, and useful for those who attend.

Guidance Curriculum: Design, Delivery, and Evaluation

This workshop trains school counselors how to develop a comprehensive guidance curriculum that is based upon national standards. Specific attention is given to application rather than theory. Participants leave with a curricular framework in hand. The program offers clear step-by-step strategies to design, deliver, and evaluate a school guidance curriculum that is standards-based and yet leaves room for significant school counselor creativity.

Delivery System: Concepts and Strategies for School Counselors

School counselors learn a variety of strategies and techniques that they can use to meet the academic, career, and personal/social needs of all students. Participants learn concepts and practices that guide their work with students and the larger systems of classrooms, families, and communities. Specific attention is focused on topics such as understanding student developmental domains (academic, career, and personal/social), classroom management, individual and group work, and student planning.

Experiential Learning Strategies

School counselors learn the concepts of experiential learning and many of the strategies used in adventure counseling. Focus is placed on how to implement these concepts and strategies to enhance and promote the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. Participants learn the elements of the experiential learning theory and explore how experiential learning can be effective in the delivery system of school counseling programs.

Supervision of School Counselors

This workshop offers a theoretical model and numerous strategies for the supervision of school counselors. School counseling supervision may involve pre-service interns and/or practicing professional school counselors. Participants learn fundamental concepts and practices of both individual and group supervision. A peer supervision model is also offered so that school counselors in the same building can learn how to present cases and gain feedback from each other effectively and efficiently.

Peer Mediation Programs

This workshop offers school counselors the understanding and strategies to develop a school or district-wide peer mediation program. Participants learn how to train students in the mediation process. They are also provided handouts and forms necessary to initiate a peer mediation program at their respective schools.

Hyalite workshops are offered by Dr. Mark Nelson, who is the author of three guidance curricula for elementary, middle and high school. Workshops can be scheduled for half or full day presentations. The cost includes a half-day or full-day consultation fee, plus all travel expenses. Please feel free to contact Hyalite, LLC regarding any questions you may have about workshop topics or scheduling.
